The Lennox City Council met on February 12 for their regular meeting, with action and discussion on several items of interest.
Two ordinances were considered at this meeting. Ordinance 648 is a re-write of the existing livestock permit requirements. Current ordinances require livestock permits to be presented to the City Council for approval, leading to delays for approval. The new ordinance authorizes the Zoning Administrator or City Administrator to review and issue such permits as they are received. Ordinance 649 is a procedural ordinance that supplements the 2023 budget by making final adjustments following the end of the year. While the ordinance expends additional dollars in several funds, the 2023 financial year was largely a success, with fund balances increasing.
Additional discussion was held regarding the potential purchase of a digital sign for the corner of Boynton Avenue and Highway 17. Several quotes were received with a wide range of costs. This item will be added to a future agenda for a decision on whether to proceed or continue with existing community outreach efforts.
Ambulance Director Alan Perry presented on the work of the South Dakota Department of Health in planning for the future of Emergency Medical Services in South Dakota. Lennox remains grateful for the funding provided for the purchase of new medical equipment, and continues to work with area ambulance services regarding a potential regional approach to service provision.
Last but not least, the City Council voted to issue a Request for Proposals for architectural services. If selected, an architect will be responsible for providing a structural assessment of the Lennox Bandshell in Westerman Park, as well as for managing the Lennox Museum Repair Project, which replaces the roof and windows at the museum.
