Lead Water Service Identification and Survey

On December 16, 2021, the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions became effective, setting
the Lead Service Line Inventory requirement for all community water systems. To comply with new requirements, water systems must develop and submit a complete materials inventory for both the privately owned and publicly owned portions of every service line to the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR).

The City of Lennox Utility Department is working hard to confirm that all of Lennox is lead-free, but we need your help! Please take five minutes to complete the survey to locate and test your water service pipe in your home.  After the survey is complete the city will be notified though the sdwaterpipes.com program which can then be added to our inventory list.

What Is a Water Service Line and Who Owns It?

A water service line refers to the pipe connecting a home or building's internal plumbing to the water main. These pipes transport water from the street's water main into residences and structures. In Lennox, individual property owners are responsible for the ownership and maintenance of water service lines, covering the stretch from the water main in the street to the water meter within the home.

Lead Service Lines

Lennox's water mains are lead-free. However, some homes may have a service line that is made of lead or lead components. One of the primary sources for lead in drinking water in our homes are lead service lines. Lead service lines may transport treated public water into homes and may leach lead from pipes into your drinking water. Older homes, especially those built before 1986, are more likely to have lead service lines, fixtures, and solder.

Take the Survey

Please take a few moments to complete the survey at www.sdwaterpipes.com especially if your home was built prior to 1986. The survey can be completed right from your mobile device. If you prefer a paper copy of the survey, please contact Lennox City Hall at (605)647-2286.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
