Warm days are winding down, which means the Public Works Street Dept. is gearing up for the winter months. For the first time, in 2023, the City of Lennox and the Lennox School District will team up for the inaugural Paint the Plow. This week, Street Department employees will be dropping off one of the city’s plows at the high school. Mrs. Maras and the creative minds in the painting class and Art Club will be tasked with designing a theme and painting the plow. Upon completion, the plow will be put on display for public viewing in Petal Pals Park by approximately Halloween, Oct. 31.
Given the short timeline to complete before a potential snow event this year, it was decided that one plow would be a good “trial run”, to catch a glimpse of how much time will be needed in the future for ideas to be heard and voted on as well as ample time to finish painting.
The city and school district hope to expand Paint the Plow in 2024 to include intermediate and elementary schools. 3-4 plows would be available to be painted as soon as school starts in August, with a deadline toward the middle of October. Elementary, middle/junior high, and high school students can brainstorm ideas ranging from Oriole Spirit, to clever plow names such as Clear-a-Pathra or Snowbi Won Kenobi, to visions of summer fun in the sun. A great way for the community and area students to see their hard work and creativity in motion all winter long.
Community members and/or local businesses who would like to submit future ideas or donate supplies, feel free to reach out to city hall at (605)647-2286.
